    Margaret Maynard                                         [email protected]
  • The subcommittee will be selecting a focus from various options including: drafting a NAP position statement about the evidence-based screening tools that are open-access and that can be used by the widest range of providers; publishing a white paper on different evidence-based screening tools for different populations, and why evidence-based screening tools are not being used or are not effectively being used, and strategies to increase adoption of these tools; creating a resource or checklist of open-access evidence-based screenings that could be accessed easily and used by a wide range of community providers.

  1. Health Communication/Health Literacy
    Teresa Wagner                                                   [email protected]
    Sarah Manspeaker                                            [email protected]
  • The subcommittee is advancing multiple ongoing projects, some extending from prior initiatives. Project 1 executed the NAP Position Statement on Access for the Prevention of STIs in June 2025 and a related webinar is being planned. Project 2 executed the NAP Position Statement for Health Literacy in May 2025 and submitted the Joint Interprofessional Health Literacy Position Statement. Further work on health literacy is on-going. Project 3 is refining the Mentation Health Literacy module. Project 4 is standardizing IPEC Competencies, and Project 5 is reviewing the Older Adult Health Literacy module. Project 6 is exploring nutrition competencies in healthcare education.

    Bob Murtagh                                                      [email protected]
  • Activities underway and planned for 2026-27 include a couple internal facing projects: 1) a follow-up to the NAP Members Workplace Well-Being Survey presented at the 2026 Forum (to include a focus on interventions); and, 2) a project involving the study of sleep habits/data involving NAP members active in clinical practice in order to identify potential issues and recommendations.

Additionally, Subcommittee Members will continue education and advocacy efforts, in conjunction with allied organizations, to increase the number of domestic violence and homeless shelters that will accept pets as, for example, victims of domestic violence often stay in abusive relationships when pets cannot be afforded safe haven as well.

  1. Healthcare Access and Quality
    Chad Lairamore                                                  [email protected]
    Mary Lopez                                                         [email protected]
  • Every person deserves optimal health and accessible, comprehensive care. Through interprofessional collaboration, this sub-committee is implementing projects targeting barriers to care: developing clinical guidelines for preventing failure-to-rescue in older adults, mobile healthcare toolkits for rural communities, educational resources for faculty on developmental disabilities, policy advocacy for uninsured populations, and evidence-based frameworks for interprofessional student education related to healthcare access. These initiatives advance Healthy People 2030's goal of reducing unmet healthcare needs.
